Andrew Lloyd Webber Sends Centrestage Cymru Sincere Wishes For Evita
Its 40 years since Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s musical, Evita opened at London’s Prince Edward Theatre. The production has since played on Broadway, toured the UK and Alan Parker even adapted it as a major Hollywood film starring Madonna and Antonia Banderas.
Now, CentreStage Cymru are set to present Evita at Newport’s Dolman Theatre from October 24th - October 27th
Telling the story of Eva Peron, wife of former Argentine dictator Juan Peron and follows Eva’s journey from humble beginnings through to extraordinary wealth, power and iconic status which ultimately lead her to be heralded as the ‘spiritual leader of the nation’ by the Argentine people.
Evita features some of musical theatre's best loved songs including Don’t Cry for Me Argentina, Oh What A Circus, Another Suitcase, Another Hall and You Must Love Me.
“If You say the musical, Evita, everybody knows it, everybody recognises it,” Centrestage Cymru ensemble member, Fiona Davies tells Andy Howells, “It’s just such a fantastic show, it’s got such a legacy, the music is incredible, the music is unbelievable. We are really lucky to do it as a society and it shows the best of what we can do.”
Another member of the ensemble, Marc Williams agrees,
“it’s a good company production, there are main parts of course, but I think it’s the whole company that make the show work. It’s the energy of the production, the dances, the singing, its all full-out and will get the audience out of their seats”
Evita will feature Sharon Higgins as Eva, Chris Davis as Che and Jordan Archer as Peron.
Composer, Andrew Lloyd-Webber has even sent the ensemble cast his sincere wishes:
