Summer With The Welsh Exotic
Hello and welcome to the Summer Welsh Exotic column!
Well, what an incredible UK summer we are having this year. I don’t know think I can remember a UK summer that has lasted as long as this since I was a child.
Welsh Exotic Logo
So I’m very happy to finally be able to release my logo (which is the header above) for The Welsh Exotic. This fabulous logo was illustrated by the incredible Rhiannon Thomas aka Moogledoo. Working with Rhiannon was such a joy as she completely understood what I was trying to achieve in this logo and I think she captured it perfectly. To check out more of Rhiannon’s work visit Moogledoo.com
The Welsh Exotic began as just a cool and unique twitter name that was inspired by a close friend who referred to my many different ethnicities as the UN. This logo is of course a nod to my ethnicities and them being considered ‘exotic’ in nature but it has now become so much more than that. It is a part of me that fully embraces my femininity and power; women are powerful and we should acknowledge that. The Welsh Exotic is all about reaffirming women’s strength, beauty and power in an age where we are now transitioning to make sure female voices are being heard.
Another part of the brand is to interview people I admire who are more than what we first see. For example my logo is very focused on my physical look and my ethnicities, however that is only one facet of me and I would like to encourage people to see past that, not just in me but in others too. Recently, I had the pleasure of interviewing Comedian and TV Personality: Omar Hamdi. You can read the ful interview here.
Therefore I am keen to interview people who inspire me and who are not just performers for example, but have so many other great passions and aspects of their life to share. I would love to hear from any of you who feel that you are that kind of person so please drop me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org Please also get in touch via email if you have any collaboration ideas.
As some of you may know from following me on my social media channels, I have now completed my Arts Council Wales career development grant and am now in a development stage to have the play professionally read with a rehearsed reading. I am still meeting with different production companies to develop it to a production stage but things are very positive at this stage and I am hoping that I will be able to give you more details on this soon.
I’m pleased to let you all know that I recently shot a video with the amazing ladies of BBC Sesh at BBC Wales, about an important subject that has become more and more prevalent in today’s society.
This great platform is aimed at 18-34 year olds with content to encourage you to think, laugh and inspire the Millennial generation and beyond. In the coming months, I will be looking to work more with this exciting social media service for BBC Wales.
I finally decided that it was about time for some new head-shots, but wanted to work with a photographer I had never worked with before; who not only shot me as an actor but was able to capture images that encompassed the other work that I do as a writer and presenter.
As some of you may know, this can be quite a worry when trying to find someone suitable, these kind of questions pop up- ‘will they understand what I am after? will they be able to reflect the best parts of me and capture that?’
Well I really wasn’t disappointed when I stumbled across the Facebook page of the very talented and modest Lloyd James. Lloyd works as both a photographer as well as an actor so has both the experience of being in front and behind the camera. Together we were able to create some head-shots, commercial and presenter shots that I will be able to use for various work for at least the next few years.

.Going back to my roots
Those of you who follow me on Instagram and Twitter may have noticed my throwback promo photographs shot by my good friend and photographer Jonathan Moss-Vernon.
These photographs were promo for my singing gigs that I used to regularly do 5-6 years ago. I am looking to get back into singing again, although I don’t need another project to take on, singing has always been something I have dipped in and out of my whole life since a child so it will be good to get back on the horse again so to speak.
As always, if there is anything you would like me to address in this column then please get in touch via my email email@example.com
I wish you all a very happy, blessed and healthy rest of summer!
