Newport Playgoers Society Celebrate Achievements With Special Awards
Members of Newport Playgoers gathered at the Dolman Theatre this week to celebrate the achievements of the 2018-19 season.
Steve Saunders received the Webley Award, given for the best performance of the season, for his portrayal of Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman. Niamh Jones was awarded the Desrae Tucker prize for best youth performance and Tia Williams received the Jonathan Connick Award given to a young person who has made a major contribution to the theatre.
Long-serving member Audrey Aston was honoured with the President’s Award. Mrs Aston whose husband John was caretaker of the theatre and whose daughter Lisa is currently theatre manager organises weekly raffles for the theatre charity which have raised over £30,000.
The Dolman theatre which is run almost entirely by volunteers and hosts hundreds of performances each year, is going from strength to strength, the audience heard, and the next season of plays will be an exciting one.
The 2019-20 Playgoers season, which begins in September, will Include productions of The Diary of Anne Frank, Tonto Evans by Frank Vickery and Vanity Fair. Membership which gives heavily discounted ticket prices, is available from dolmantheatre.co.uk
