Life Hack Event To Inspire Next Generation of Arts Professionals

After the success of last year’s inaugural event, Sparc Valleys Kids and Wales Millennium Centre will host another Life Hack on 5 October 2019, at The Factory in Porth. Supported by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, this year’s all-day event will give young people aged 11-25 from across South Wales the opportunity to meet professionals from the creative industries, take part in workshops and speed networking sessions, before finishing off the evening with a silent disco. It’s a FREE event and food is included. Tickets are FREE but must be booked at www.wmc.org.uk from Wednesday 11 September.

Last year’s event included representatives from the BBC, Jenkins Music, Wales Arts Review, Afon Dance, FAW Trust, Staylittle Music and Wildflame Productions, and this year’s event will be even bigger with representatives from the world of game/app design, animation and more.

The whole event has been co-designed with a steering group of young people aged 11-25 from across South Wales, from choosing what kind of professionals they want to meet to have their say on the branding and marketing.

It forms part of Together Stronger; a partnership between Valleys Kids and Wales Millennium Centre, and supported by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, to provide more creative opportunities for young people aged 11-25 in the south Wales valleys.

Valleys Kids is a community development organisation based in the South Wales valleys. Working with some of the most marginalised communities in Europe, Valleys Kids is about changing lives for the better. The organisation has a rich 40-year-old history of developing innovative projects in youth and family work, drawing especially on play and art.

The Sparc team (formerly ArtWorks) is an integral part of the community development work at Valleys Kids, working with young people in a variety of settings. Using creative techniques, the children and young people explore different areas of their lives and the lives of others in a positive way. Sparc uses theatre and art to explore different areas of life, creating their own work as well as collaborating with other inspiring organisations to ignite change in their communities.
