CARDIFF Philharmonic Orchestra are about to present their most exciting season yet, featuring a Hollywood A-lister!
The 2016/17 series starts on October 21 with Concert of the Unexpected: A Celebration of Roald Dahl, including the World Premiere of Mr Dahl based on the Cardiff-born author’s colourful life, narrated by iconic Welsh actor Michael Sheen.
The family concert forms part of Cardiff’s City of the Unexpected festival, celebrating 100 years of Dahl, who was born in Llandaff in 1916. The rest of the programme outlines Dahl’s war years as a pilot with Walton’s Spitfire, Prelude and Fugue; his Norwegian roots, Grieg’s much-loved Peer Gynt Suite, and one of his most popular tales, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
On December 9, Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra will present A Night at the Movies which returns with some of Hollywood’s greatest film themes including Superman, Indiana Jones, Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean, Thunderbirds and Psycho. The concert will also feature the Welsh Premiere of music from Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
In 2017, the orchestra celebrates the most romantic date of the year with the St Valentine’s Day Special on February 14, before the season closes with The Glory of Strauss & Elgar on June 30.
