Good things can come in little bundles and Will Young has certainly hit the right note with his newly released Summer Covers EP. Here, Young brings an acoustic soulful twist to the classic pop of The Buzzcocks’ Ever Fallen In Love and a mellow wave of jazz to the Beatles’ I’m Only Sleeping. By the time you get to his wonderful version of Joni Mitchell’s Answer Me, My Love you almost wish that the EP was an album. A release to enjoy while chilling out late at night.
Another release leaning on covers is The Three Degrees latest album Strategy – Our Tribute To Philadelphia which sees the established ladies perform tracks that were famous for other Philadelphia artists such as Billy Paul and The Trammps. Their rendition of The O Jays’ Love Train is particularly stand out, especially alongside any of their 1970s disco material. Catch The Three Degrees performing at Newport Riverfront on their 50th anniversary tour this autumn.
