Top Five Folk Blues Acts To See In South Wales In Autumn 2016

Andy Howells checks out some of the best folk blues acts visiting South Wales this autumn.


The Saw Doctors (Cardiff Tramshed, November 28)
Headed by chief songwriters Davy Carton and Leo Moran, The Saw Doctors have built up a reputation as an unmissable live band with countless sold out tours to an abundance of festival appearances. 


Dan Whitehouse (Tythe Barn, St Donat’s, September 30)
An original take on modern folk/Americana, Dan’s music consists of observational lyrics and imagined stories and could be defined as Black Country Soul. Dan will be supporting Boo Hewerdine on his current tour when they play South Wales. 


Si Barron (Lyceum Folk Club, Newport, September 15)
Si Barron has been making music for 15 years, firstly as  one half of the duo Barron Brady and now as a solo artist. 


Chris While and Julie Matthews (Pontadawe Arts Centre, September 23) 
Folk duo Chris While and Julie Matthews will kick off their autumn tour in South wales  following the release off their tenth studio album, Shoulder to Shoulder.


Dave Arcari (Beaufort Theatre, Ebbw Vale, September 24)
Scottish blues troubadour Dave Arcari follows up the release of his latest EP Hellbound Train with a live show at Ebbw Vale’s Beaufort Theatre .Other than the release of McPherson’s Lament as a digital single to mark Burns’ Day earlier in the year, this is Arcari’s first release in three years – and pre-empts a full-length album Givers & Takers which is scheduled for release in early 2017.
