Later this month, October Sixty Six’ touring production of The Revlon Girl will take to theatres throughout Wales for a month long tour.
Supported by The Arts Council Wales, the play will coincide with the 50th Anniversary of the Aberfan Disaster which occurred on October 21 1966 and is based on actual events that resulted in the tragic loss of 116 children and 28 adults.
Written by Neil Anthony Docking and directed by Maxine Evans, The Revlon Girl draws on the real life story of a small group of bereaved mothers who met every Tuesday above a local hotel to talk, cry and even laugh, without feeling guilty. At one of their meetings, the women realised how much they had let themselves go and afraid that people would think them frivolous, they secretly arranged for a representative from Revlon to come and give a talk on beauty tips.
The play was first performed at the Tristran Bates theatre in Covent Garden in the summer of 2015 and received praise from audiences and critics alike. The extended and new version of the play stars Terri Dwyer, Michelle McTernan and Sarah Jayne Hopkins will receive its World Premiere at Pontardawe Arts Centre on the September 29.
