Meet The Band: Against the Current

Chrissy Costanza, Dan Gow and Will Ferri AKA Against The Current kick off their 8 date UK tour at Bristol’s Fleece on September 21. The tour follows on from the New York rockers debut album In Our Bones which was released in May and reached the top 30 in the UK charts.

The album was released off the back of two EPs (The Gravity EP and Infinity EP) that earned the band a worldwide following. Andy Howells recently put questions to Chrissy Costanza of the band.

How did you first start out in music?
I’ve just been singing for as long as I can remember. There was never a defining moment that went off where I realized that I loved music. It was just always there.

Who or what has inspired you most on your musical journey?
Reality. There’s many so many inspirational influences from other artists or bands but that the core reality is the greatest influence. Our music is a reaction the reality happening around us.

Can you give us some background about your recent album?
We started writing in January of 2015 and the last song was recorded that December. We wrote over 40 songs for the record and our favorites became the album that you know today.

You’re touring shortly are you looking forward to that?
Yes! We cannot wait to get back on the road.

What can people expect from your forthcoming Bristol gig?
A lot of energy and dynamic. We want to create an electric environment.

What are you enjoying listening to at the moment?
Catfish & the Bottlemen is all I’ve listened to recently, they’re awesome.
