It’s over a quarter of a century since Big Mac’s Wholly Soul Band were formed as the house band for the legendary Hollywood Club in Newport, and the line-up of tenor sax, trumpet and trombone, bass, drums, guitar, keyboards, two dynamic female vocalists and charismatic front-man Mike ‘Big Mac’ McNamara are still a huge hit on the local music circuit, selling out music venues across South Wales.
Next week, the band play The Met, Abertillery delivering their renditions of soul classics popularised by Wilson Pickett, Sam and Dave, Otis Redding and James Brown, as well as performing some of the greatest hits of Motown, Philly and Funk.
