Cardiff Symphony Orchestra To Remember Battle Of The Somme

CARDIFF University Symphony Orchestra will pay a touching tribute on Remembrance Sunday, November 13, at St David’s Hall to those that fell at the Battle of the Somme.

The afternoon will begin with a free 40-minute pre-concert talk at 2pm in the L3 Lounge. Cardiff academics Dr Toby Thacker (History), Dr John Jewell (Journalism) and renowned Welsh writer Jon Gower will host a compelling discussion about propaganda and film at the time of the Battle. Cardiff University Special Collections & Archives will also be exhibiting archival holdings linked to the First World War.

A screening Geoffrey Malins’s and J.B. McDowell’s 1916 silent film The Battle of the Somme will follow at 3pm in the auditorium with live accompaniment from the Cardiff University Symphony Orchestra playing a score by Laura Rossi.
