Six Festive Favourites To Catch In South Wales This Christmas

Christmas is coming and so are a selection of Christmas shows and pantomimes for the family to enjoy between the frantic moments of putting up decorations and Christmas shopping. Andy Howells checks out six shows coming to a stage near you over the next few weeks.


Newport Riverfront’s Christmas pantomime, Cinderella is already underway and stars returning TV favourites Elin Llwyd as Cinderella and Richard Elis as Buttons along with Lloyd Green as Prince Charming and Nic Gibney and Liam Tobin as The Ugly Sisters.

Fans of BBC Radio Wales presenter Owen Money only have a few days to catch him in Beauty and The Beast at Ebbw Vale’s Beaufort Theatre. The panto continues until December 4 and tickets are available via http://www.blaenaugwentvenues.com or from the Box Office on 01495 355800.


Llanyrafon Drama Group’s pantomime production Peter Pan continues on December 3 at 2:30pm and 7:30pm. This years Christmas show at The Sherman Theatre is The Emperor’s New Clothes.  a reimagining of the classic Hans Christian Andersen tale. Written by award-winning playwright Alun Saunders, with songs and live music, made especially for 3 – 6 year olds and their families. The production runs from December 5 – 31. Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins will take to the stage of the Wales Millennium Centre between December 14 2016 and January 14 2017.  Adapted from the wonderful stories by PL Travers and the Walt Disney film, the magical story of the world’s favourite Nanny stars Zizi Strallen as Mary Poppins and Matt Lee as Bert.
