Meet The Band: Into The Ark

Blackwood duo Into The Ark are set to perform at Cardiff’s Clwb Ifor Bach on December 13.

Following several years of busking and an intense year of touring and festival appearances, Marshall Jones (20) and Dane Lloyd (25) recently released their debut single My Ghost . Andy Howells recently caught up with the duo.

What made you decide on the name?
We bounced back a few names for a long time, then we were like wait…there’s two of us, two by two. INTO THE ARK! Mic drop.

Can you tell us about your latest release?
We are just about to release our second single Brightest Creatures. We spent last year touring non stop, didn’t get much time to focus on the studio side of things. There were a lot of late night shows, staying up till like 4/5am writing music in the van, tents and shabby hotels. So the moment we had the chance to record, we wrote about exactly that! So we hope you like it.

Which of your songs do you think defines you most as musicians at the moment and why?
There is a track we recorded called I’ll Be Gone Again. A soulful and heartfelt song. It’s the one we feel the most when we perform. It has some really personal lyrics…its a bit of a time machine song.

What can people expect when they come to see you perform live?
Our setup is just two vocals, two guitars and a sample pad. The pad allows us to take parts from our recordings and use them as samples live. We didn’t want to get a band just yet, we like the thought of it being just two dudes, with their guitars. All in all its acoustic soul and blues.

Are you looking forward to playing the homecoming date in South Wales?
We haven’t played a home show since May, so we are absolutely beaming for this one. Especially now we have music out there. Wales has been our backbone through all our journey and its great to see everyone still following and supporting new live music – so hopefully this home show will be one to remember!

What can we expect from Into The Ark in 2017?
We play London in February and a festival in Sweden too at the early part of next year – we would like to get back into the studio as we’re full of ideas and we’ll be looking for more UK & European dates as 2017 gets going. We will hopefully be making an album next year too – and if luck is on our side, we’ll be at as many festivals as we can get into during the summer – but all will be revealed mwhahahahahaaha!

Where can fans find out more about you?
