At Christmas: Music Stars Favourite Christmas Songs

Christmas songs – we all love them, from Bing Crosby’s White Christmas to Slade’s Merry Christmas Everybody, but which songs do some of our favourite performers love? Andy Howells recently found out..

Welsh singing star, Aled Jones, who recently released topped the classical music chart for the second time in 2016 with One Voice at Christmas, has special memories of his Christmas songs.
Aled says “I’ve always loved Away in A Manger because it reminds me of been in Primary School, sitting cross legged on an uncomfortable wooden floor for the first time thinking “Wow! What an amazing melody! “

Aled, who revisits Walking In The Air on the new album by duetting with his younger self also revisits In The Bleak Midwinter on the new album, “There’s a version on the new album with a lovely new arrangement featuring little Aled and me now. That’s probably one of the most gorgeous ones!”

Blackwood duo, Into The Ark whose new single Brightest Creatures will be released in the New Year have a more contemporary flavoured spin, “If we had to pick one, it would have to be The Darkness’ Christmas Time. We don’t perform it, but the dude (Justin Hawkins) can sing!”

American singer/songwriter Lissie recently featured the Joni Mitchell composition River on her new album Live At Union Chapel, ‘River is a holiday song I return to but I also like Wham’s  Last Christmas”  she says.
