Drama and Hilarity in La Cage Aux Folies

West End star John Partridge and musical theatre icon Marti Webb star in the first ever UK tour of a major new production of La Cage Aux Folles which plays at Cardiff New theatre from January 31.

The story follows Georges and the dazzling drag artiste Albin, star of La Cage Aux Folles, who live an idyllic existence in St Tropez. But all may be about to change when Georges’ son announces his engagement to the daughter of a notorious right-wing politician determined to close down the local colourful night-life. Drama and hilarity ensue when a meeting of the parents forces them to cover up their vibrant lifestyle.

Written by Harvey Fierstein and Jerry Herman, and based on the 1973 French play by Jean Poiret, the score includes The Best of Times, Song on the Sand and the iconic I Am What I Am, which has been recorded by musical legends Gloria Gaynor, Shirley Bassey and Tony Bennett.

  • La Cage Aux Folles is at the New Theatre from January 31 until February 4. To book tickets visit newtheatrecardiff.co.uk or call the Box Office on (029) 2087 8889.
