As years go by, albums, particularly those that never sold well originally are frequently retitled and repackaged in order to cash in on an artist’s later success. Can I Have My Money Back?, the solo debut release from the late Scottish singer songwriter Gerry Rafferty has fallen into that category in the past.
A critical success on release in 1971, the album steeped in harmonious folk rock was not a commercial success. The album however finally gets the respect and love it deserves with a remastered and expanded release as well as the restoring of the original cover artwork by John Patrick Byrne
Can I Have My Money Back? features Rafferty’s earliest song writing collaboration with Joe Egan on Sign on The Dotted Line. The pair would eventually form Stealers Wheel, but it’s worth noting the pairs harmonious chemistry is in full flow throughout this recording while Rafferty’s performances on Don’t Count Me Out, One Drink Down and the title track still sound fresh.
