Big Pit launches new welsh language workshops for schools as part of St David’s Day celebrations
To coincide with celebrating St David’s Day, pupils from Ysgol Bryn Onnen, near Pontypool, will be participating in a new Welsh medium ‘Washday’ session at Big Pit National Coal Museum.
The session looks at what home life was like before the advent of washing machines, vacuum cleaners and electricity using objects to illustrate domestic tasks in the past. A focus will be on ‘Washday’ and will include songs, movement and art activities.
Visitors to Big Pit on March 1 will also have a chance to hear the children performing songs from their upcoming school Eisteddfod.
Sharon Ford, Learning, Participation and Interpretation Manager at Big Pit, said. “We are delighted to welcome Ysgol Bryn Onnen to help us launch our new welsh medium workshop. Where better place for the children to celebrate our patron saint than at an iconic Welsh location such as Big Pit?”
A special St David’s Day Menu will also be available for visitors in the original Miners’ Canteen.
