CD Review: Vince Hill – Edelweiss/Look Around (And You’ll Find Me There)

Incredible to think that over 50 years on from release, much of balladeer Vince Hill’s back catalogue still hasn’t received a CD release. Cherry Red have rectified this with two of Hill’s releases 1967’s Edelweiss and 1971’s Look Around (And You’ll Find Me There) released back to back on one CD.

Recorded four years apart, both albums, originally released on EMI’s Columbia Records, feature songs from popular musicals including The Sound of Music, High Society and West Side Story. There’s also a sprinkling of Hill’s gentle vocal delivery on hits They Long To Be Close To You and a rare cover of Leonard Cohen’s Hey That’s No Way To Say Goodbye.

With additional sleevenotes by Vince himself, who has just celebrated 55 years in the music industry as a solo artist, this is a timely reminder of one of the UK’s greatest balladeers.
