Sophie Willan Goes On Record At Pontardawe Arts Centre

One of the breakout stars from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2016, Sophie Willan brings her stand up show ‘On Record’ to Swansea’s Pontardawe Arts Centre on June 23

Bolton born Sophie grew up in and out of the Care System. At 23, the state unexpectedly handed over all her personal records. In her deeply personal show, Sophie explores who she is today through the eyes of the numerous experts that assessed her growing up…

As an adult Sophie has rarely managed to play by the rules. She tells the audience how mental health issues are rife in her family and talks openly about her mother’s addiction to heroin, resulting in drug induced schizophrenia. She deftly guides the audience through the hereditary implications of psychosis and schizophrenia, discussing how this has influenced who she is today. Both engagingly honest yet darkly optimistic, each moment is delivered through Sophie’s razor sharp and totally authentic comic voice.

Sophie has also built a seriously impressive reputation as an accomplished and fearless performer in theatre and cabaret. In 2014, she toured her one-woman play ‘The Novice Detective’ to over 60 venues across the UK – including a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2014.
