The Welsh National team’s performance in Euro 2016 was one of last year’s great sporting underdog stories. Their first tournament appearance since the 1958 World Cup, the team broke all predictions by making the final.
Recent years had seen the team go through the grief of previous manager Gary Speed’s tragic death, heavy defeats, and positioned as a tiny country team with no pedigree. With encouragement and direction from Chris Coleman and led by star player Gareth Bale, the team clawed back victories by quickly becoming the outside favourites. The ancient Welsh saying “Yma o Hyd” which translates as, “we’re still here” became a defiantly apt statement from the smallest country in the history of the game as they reached Euro 2016’s semi-finals.
Don’t Take Me Home follows the teams amazing progress to the semi-finals where they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Portugal as well as their victorious return home to Wales. I really enjoyed the DVD as it shows highlights each game as well as personal memories of each player.
- Don’t Take Me Home is available on DVD and Blu-Ray on Spirit Entertainment from July 3.
