Newport Based Theatre Company Take First World War Drama To Edinburgh Fringe

A new series of performances of Stephen MacDonald’s play, Not About Heroes starring Newport actor Daniel Llewelyn Williams and Iestyn Arwel will launch at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe before embarking on a tour of England and Wales this autumn.

The Fringe performances produced by Newport based theatre company, Flying Bridge Theatre,  will mark the centenary of the meeting it depicts between celebrated WWI poets Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon.

The play, which premiered at Edinburgh Fringe 35 years ago is set at Craiglockhart Hospital in 1917, where two poets bonded over a mutual hatred of war and a love for poetry. When staged by the same director at Theatr Clwyd during 2015, the production won Best Actor at the Wales Theatre Awards for Newport actor, Daniel Llewelyn Williams, who reprises his role in the latest production as Sassoon alongside Iestyn Arwel as Owen.

  • Not About Heroes will run at the Edinburgh Fringe Pleasance Dome from August 2 – 28  at 12 noon each day. (The production previews from August 2-4; and there will be no shows on August 9, 16 & 23)
  • Tickets for the production will be £6 – £12.50 and available from the Box Office on 0131 556 6550 or via http://www.pleasance.co.uk or alternately from the Fringe: 0131 226 0000 or via http://www.edfringe.com
