One of Wales’ best loved choral conductors is inviting Neath boys aged between 11 and 19 to join one of the most famous choirs in Wales. Tim Rhys-Evans, MBE, is hosting a workshop in the town to recruit young men for the town’s Only Boys Aloud choir.
Only Neath Boys Aloud is one of 14 OBA choirs currently operating in venues across Wales. Only Boys Aloud, sponsored by Principality Building Society since its formation in 2010, has offered once- in-a- lifetime opportunities to hundreds of boys to perform on platforms large and small across the UK, as well as numerous TV appearances and recordings.
In the last 6 months OBA have performed on an open-air stage in front of a packed crowd at the UEFA Champions League Festival, worked with Grammy Award winning song-writer Amy Wadge, who wrote Thinking Out Loud with Ed Sheeran, sung at both the Urdd Eisteddfod and the Llangollen
International Eisteddfod, and some of the older members took to the stage at the world famous Wigmore Hall in London. In November, almost 120 boys will be heading for Ypres in Belgium where they will sing at the Last Post Ceremony at Menin Gate and perform a concert to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Passchendaele.
Entry to the choir is open to all young men between 11-19.
A free workshop is taking place at Neath’s Gwyn Hall between 11am and 1pm on Saturday September 2: open to all and any boy aged between 11 and 19 of any – or no – experience of singing, and hosted by Tim, two of OBA’s regular Team Captains will lead a lively and fun session, giving a taste of what it’s like to be in Only Boys Aloud.
Regular weekly rehearsals for Only Neath Boys Aloud will take place on Thursday evenings during term-time, between 6.30 and 8.30pm at Neath Town Hall.
