Newport Playgoers Society start their new season at the Dolman Theatre next week with the comedy When Did You Last see Your Trousers.
From the pens of Ray Galton, Alan Simpson and John Antrobus, the farcical comedy centres on married bookmaker Howard Swerling who while visiting his lover gets his trousers stolen by a burglar. The hunt for spare trousers commences, leading to a sex-mad policeman’s proposal of marriage, drug parties and half-clad men and women – and from there, straight into mayhem. Yet all Howard wants is to be home before his wife wakes up. Howard stumbles from one insanely funny situation into the next. Assisted by his pessimistic mistress, her punk friend Jimmy, his own au pair girl and a member of Her Majesty’s Government, Howard gets more and more entangled in a net of lies and deception.
The play will be the directional debut of Jerry Grummitt who joined Newport Playgoers back in 2013. Jerry has appeared in several plays that have been performed at the Dolman, culminating in an appearance with the company in The Titfield Thunderbolt at the Minack Theatre Cornwal last year.
When Did You Last See Your Trousers runs at The Dolman Theatre from September 12 until September 16. Performances start at 7:15pm, with an additional matinee performance at 2:30pm on the Saturday. Parental Discretion advised for under 14’s as the play contains some adult themes and language. Tickets are available from http://www.dolmantheatre.co.uk
