Operasonic To Present Musical Mystery At Newport Riverfront

Operasonic’s first production, Nightmare Scenario, is an edgy, immersive musical mystery created for aged 8+. Will take to the stage of Newport’s Riverfront Theatre for four performances from October 7 – 8.

The show follows Aggie Cornog who tells dangerous and enchanting stories. Usually they end and everything goes back to normal, but this terrifying tale has come to life! It’s down in the basement, telling itself, and can’t be stopped. That is, unless Aggie can recruit a gang of fearless story-busters to go down there and sort it out!

The story is about betrayal, self-discovery, love and war between Djaran and Ystria, and follows a girl called Benita, as she sets out from Ystria to find her real parents. The story also follows a young Djaran captain called Habib as he leads his men to safety away from Ystrian troops and a king-general Saddiq as he fights for his country Djaran. Through Aggie’s storytelling, the audience will discover the truth that binds these three together, and help the story to find its ending.

The process of making Nightmare Scenario began in 2015 with workshops in Pillgwennlly Primary School. A class of year 5 pupils devised the story working with composer Stephen Deazley and writer Martin Riley. The story they made was so good that it was decided to make it into a performance and share it with other children.

Workshops have been taking place across 2017 to develop the story and characters further and explore how to create an immersive experience with a view  to tour Nightmare Scenario in 2018.

The performances for Nightmare Scenario take place at Newport Riverfront at 11am and 2pm on Saturday October 7 and 11am & 2pm SundayOctober 8. Tickets are £7 each or £26 for a family of 4
