Screening of Bolshoi Ballet’s Taming Of The Shrew In Chepstow

A screening of The Bolshoi Ballet’s The Taming of the Shrew, captured live in Moscow, will take place at The Drill Hall, Chepstow on Sunday November 12 at 3pm.

The Taming of the Shrew is a new ballet, a funny and fast witted version and a bold re- thinking of Shakespeare’s play. Katharina is no longer a scold and Petruchio a bully, they are two people ‘taming’ each other, she clever, stubborn and frustrated and angry at being forced onto the marriage market, while he is portrayed as a swaggering joker with a romantic heart, bored with conventional society.

This new production,  staged exclusively for the Bolshoi combines French choreographer Jean-Christophe Maillot’s classical and modern style with a musical patchwork of Shostakovich film scores pieced together to switch mood and tempo from serious to comic.
