Abergavenny Symphony Orchestra are set to perform a concert of classical greats.
The concert at St Michael’s RC Church, Abergavenny will commence at 8pm on November 19, with a perforformance of Berlioz’ Benvenuto Cellini overture, before been joined by Italian classical guitarist Giacomo Susani to perform Rodrigo’s beautiful Concierto de Aranjuez for guitar and orchestra.
The second half rounds out the centenary commemoration of Finnish independence and Russian revolution, beginning with Shostakovich’s Festive Overture. The final piece of the evening will be Sibelius’ Symphony No 5, one of his most popular symphonies, commissioned to celebrate his 50th birthday just before the Finnish civil war which resulted in independence from Russia in 1917.
