Christmas in Newport is to start in style this Saturday when Wales football team manager Chris Coleman will join the mayor of Newport, Cllr David Fouweather, in switching on the city’s Christmas lights.
The event entitled Countdown to Christmas is organised by the Newport Now Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with Newport City Council and Friars Walk .
Countdown to Christmas will run from 12pm until 5.30pm featuring a programme of music, fairground rides, celebrity guests including Voice stars Into The Ark.

- From 2pm, Capital FM breakfast show presenter Polly James takes over as the on-stage host for the rest of the event.

- 3.40pm-4.05pm X Factor finalists Jack and Joel;

The city centre’s Christmas lights are scheduled to be turned on at 5.15pm and a firework display will start from the roof of the Kingsway car park at 5.30pm.
