In the weeks leading up to Christmas we’ll be meeting some of the stars of VCS Radio Cardiff and finding out what they love about the Christmas season.
Today, Andy Howells meets the presenter of the station’s new Tuesday morning magazine programme, Come On In, Ceri Stennett..
How did you get involved with radio?
Through working alongside my late father, the entertainer, Stan Stennett.
Tell us about Come On In.
It’s a magazine programme featuring guests on a whole range of topics, live music and plenty of fun. Tuesday mornings, 9am-11am, Radio Cardiff, 98.7 FM.
What has been your favourite experience since getting involved with Radio Cardiff?
The team that looks after the radio station are all such good people. Also, having the chance of meeting so many people with stories to tell from Cardiff – it is such a great city to come from.

If you could pick anyone to interview living or dead who would it be, why and what would you ask them?
My comedy hero was Groucho Marx from The Marx Brothers. I loved watching their old movies from the 1930’s & 40’s. I would have loved to have met him! If I could ask him anything it would be about his life with his brothers (Chico & Harpo) on the road in the USA when they were touring with their Vaudeville act in the 1920’s and being contemporaries of comedy legends such as Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy etc.
What was the first record you owned?
‘In the Summertime’ by Mungo Jerry. 45rpm. The summer of 1970 – I was ten.
Vinyl or Digital?
Always vinyl, it has a warmth that is unique.
Do you have a favourite Christmas song and does it evoke any memories for you?
‘A Winters Tale’ by David Essex, reminds me of being a teenager in love at Christmas time.
Do you have a film old or new you intend to watch or rewatch over the Christmas period?
‘A Night at the Opera’ by The Marx Brothers, who else?
Have you bought all your Christmas presents yet?
No, but I am well advanced!

What’s your favourite Christmas tradition?
For so many years of my life, Christmas was wrapped-up with my late father doing pantomime in all sorts of theatres. For 20 years and more, I appeared alongside him too.
What’s your wish for 2018?
Good Health for all my family and friends – it’s all that matters.
