CD Review: In A Winter Light by Alexander Armstrong

In A Winter Light is all-round entertainer Alexander Armstrong’s third commercial release. Listeners to Armstrong’s previous releases will be aware of his strong baritone voice which and the treatment he has given to pop classics and musical standards.

The album features atmospheric and fresh interpretations of Christmas Classics. Following Armstrong’s traditional instrumental prologue there is his interpretation of the beautiful  White Winter Hymnal setting the scene for traditional Christmas tunes to come.

Little Girl Blue (featuring Jools Holland), There Is No Rose, and I still Believe In Christmas are among the offerings Armstrong shines a light on while his rendition of Winter Wonderland is simply magical.

Other familiar favourites include Silent Night, O Holy Night, The Christmas Song, and Let It Snow featuring sterling support from The Royal Air Force Squadronaires and The Choir of The New College Oxford.

It might be time to start thinking about packing away our Christmas tunes for another year but along with Bing, Frank, Nat and Dean, Alexander Armstrong’s In a Winter Light looks set to join the line-up of seasonal playlists for Christmas future.
