Cannonballista is the explosive solo show by Liz Clarke which will perform at Peak, Crickhowell and Sherman Theatre, Cardiff during spring 2018. The performance explores grief, coping mechanisms and ‘things we do to get us through’; combined with sheds, impossible heels and a huge dollop of glitz!
Liz is a Bristol based performance artist and the show combines Liz’s live art practice with cabaret and theatre, and also includes live music on stage. Cannonballista will be performing at Peak Crickhowell on 3 February and in Sherman Theatre, Cardiff on 8 March which is also International Women’s Day 2018.
Cannonballista is directed by Holly Stoppit, with Sound Design by Sam Halmarack, Lighting Design from Chris Illingworth. It is written and performed by Liz Clarke.
“I’m really pleased to be performing my first full length show in Crickhowell,” says Liz, “Cannonballista is the story of my Super Hero Alter Ego – Betty Bruiser, who has been present in my life for a good few years now. This highly charged performance will bring together a cannon, a shed and impossibly high heels, in ways that have never been witnessed before! It also features (if Betty gets her way); the biggest feat of her career so far.
The show received a great reaction in Newport and Bristol in autumn 2017, and we’re looking forward to now bringing it back to South Wales. It’s very fitting to be performing the show on International Women’s Day, as it’s a celebration of women everywhere – Cannonballista is inspired by ordinary women living extraordinary lives.”
Liz Clarke specialises in working with people who do not normally access the arts, especially people with lived experience of mental health and will share her practice and creative process in workshops at Sherman Theatre.
Using themes from the show participants will discover their own Super Hero Alter Ego – the parts of ourselves that are extraordinary, untapped and unexpected. The workshops are designed for women with and without mental health issues who want to further their performance experience. For further information please contact info@lizclarke.org
