Music Fans To Get Crazy For Gershwin in Cardiff

Crazy for Gershwin a performance of music, song and dance celebrating the much-admired works of George Gershwin, will come to Cardiff’s St David’s Hall later this Spring.

Gershwin is often regarded as the greatest of the popular music composers and recognised for bringing the jazz style to the piano concerto.  One of the most talented of the first generation of musical theatre composers, George Gershwin successfully bridged the gap between concert hall and Broadway.

Crazy for Gershwin will contain classic orchestral compositions alongside a selection of show-stopping numbers written in collaboration with his lyricist brother, Ira.  Songs performed from the Gershwin songbook will include: ‘Rhapsody in Blue’, ‘Shall We Dance’, ‘Lady Be Good’, ‘But Not For Me’, ‘S’Wonderful’, ‘I Got Rhythm’, ‘Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off’, ‘They Can’t Take That Away From Me’, ‘Swanee’, ‘The Man I Love’, ‘Strike Up the Band’, ‘A Foggy Day In London Town’ and ‘Summertime’.

Performing Gershwin’s songs will be Viv McLean on piano, soprano Katie Brill, baritone Rodney Earl Clarke and Richard Balcombe – conducting the London Concert Orchestra. Also featured will be a ballroom dance duo and tap dancers.
