All-Female Lord Of The Flies Scheduled For Welsh Theatres

Sherman Theatre, Regional Theatre of the Year – The Stage Awards 2018, will co-produce a major new staging of the classic Lord of the Flies with Theatr Clwyd. This powerful new production of the adaptation by Nigel Williams will be directed by Caroline Steinbeis, Associate Director at Sheffield Theatres. Performances at Sherman Theatre will take place from 17 Oct – 3 Nov 2018.

‘This all-female Lord of the Flies is the first co-production between Sherman Theatre and Theatr Clwyd,” says Sherman Theatre’s Artistic Director, Rachel O’Riordan, ” I am delighted to be partnering with Tamara Harvey on this bold re-imagining of a classic story, with the voices of young women placed front and centre.”

“The production will be made in both Cardiff and Mold, with a cast featuring extraordinary Welsh talent. I am also delighted to welcome director Caroline Steinbeis in her first production for both theatres. In these times, it feels important to look at this story with new eyes. Society itself is interrogated in Golding’s iconic story. Who better to do that now than a team of brave young women.’

Lord of the Flies will form the central element of Sherman Theatre’s autumn season. Following on from the success of productions including A Doll’s House and The Cherry Orchard, Sherman Theatre’s main house autumn season production has become a highly anticipated event. Lord of the Flies will be a genuinely collaborative project with the production being developed at both theatres with rehearsals beginning at Sherman Theatre before moving to Theatr Clwyd.

Lord of the Flies will run at Theatr Clwyd from 20 Sept until 13 Oct. Performances at Sherman Theatre will begin on 17 Oct and run until 3 Nov.
