Welsh Language Drama Fel Anifail To Play Sherman Theatre

Sherman Theatre will present their new production of a masterpiece of Welsh language theatre Fel Anifail from 11 – 20 Oct.

This new and necessary production of Meic Povey’s play stars Welsh actors Wyn Bowen Harries  and Morfudd Hughes . Wyn Bowen Harries has worked mainly in Welsh language theatre and television for the last forty years, playing many roles both on stage and in television. Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama graduate Morfudd Hughes has starred in popular Welsh language television shows such as C’mon Midffîld, Rownd a Rownd and Tipyn o Stâd, and performed on stage with many Welsh theatre companies such as Theatr Bara Caws and Theatre Genedlaethol Cymru.

Written by one of the most important writers Wales has ever produced, Meic Povey, this play tells the story of Defi and Mair. Having spent their whole lives living at the same farm house on the same mountain, the time comes where they have to face the prospect of moving on. Thoughts turn to stories of years gone by, children who are no longer around and hidden secrets they have kept.

This brand-new production approved by the playwright before his passing last year is directed by Jac Ifan Moore. Jac was the first JMK Assistant Director at Sherman Theatre assisting Artistic Director Rachel O’Riordan on A Doll’s House and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. He went on to direct Sherman Youth Theatre in Citizenship as part of the NT Connections Festival 2016, and World Domination by Lesley Hart. Jac is one half of Sherman Theatre’s current Company in Residence, PowderHouse.

Fel Anifail is a Welsh language production, non-Welsh speakers and learners can follow the play throughout with English surtitles at all performances.
