A stage adaptation of Laurie Lee’s Cider With Rosie will take to the stage of Newport’s Dolman Theatre this November.
In the directors chair is Sue Burgess, who recently moved back home to Newport after living in Spain for 10 years .Six months after moving back, Sue was invited to direct Cider With Rosie for Newport Playgoers Society and delighted to take up the offer.
Whist living in Spain, Sue directed several musicals for local societies but quickly became aware of several restrictions while preparing for a production, including lack of fly towers, no space on the side of the stage or rehearsal facilities, all of which are luxuries readily afforded for local societies who put on shows in Newport’s Dolman Theatre.

Cider With Rosie director, Sue Burgess with her son, David who will feature in the forthcoming Newport Playgoers production which plays at Newport’s Dolman Theatre from November 13 – 17, 2018.
Now back in Newport, Sue has appreciated having an ably facilitated theatre to stage the Playgoers latest production.
“it has been a challenge to direct Cider With Rosie,” says Sue, “it is technically quite a difficult play but I have been greatly helped along the way by my very talented cast, one of whom is my son David. One of the reasons for moving back from Spain was family, although I’m not so sure David thought being directed by his mum would be part of the bargain.”
