Musicals Star Lea Salonga To Play Wales Millennium Centre In 2019

Singer, actress and Broadway royalty, Lea Salonga, known across the world for her powerful voice and perfect pitch and best known for her Tony Award winning role in Miss Saigon has announced a string of U.K. shows including Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff on March 4, 2019.

Lea’s career began with her making her professional debut in 1978 at the age of seven in the musical The King and I. She then went on to star in productions of Annie, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Fiddler on the Roof, The Rose Tattoo, The Sound of Music, The Goodbye Girl, Paper Moon, and The Fantasticks.

During her 37-year career Lea has performed with legendary pop quartet Il Divo, accompanying them in Asia, the United States, Canada, Mexico, and all through Eastern and Western Europe on their A Musical Affair tour, celebrating the band’s 10th anniversary. Having previously performed for the likes of Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Diana, Princess of Wales and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II she has also become one of the best-selling Filipina artists of all time, selling over 19 million albums worldwide and boasts numerous accolades such as an Olivier, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Theatre World Awards amongst others.

In addition to playing the original Miss Saigon, she was also the first Asian to play Eponine in the musical Les Misérables on Broadway and returned to the beloved show as Fantine in the 2006 revival. She also played the singing voice of two Disney princesses, Princess Jasmine in Aladdin and Fa Mulan in Mulan and Mulan II. For her portrayal of the beloved princesses, the Walt Disney Company bestowed her with the honour of “Disney Legend” in August of 2011 alongside legends such as Regis Philbin, Jim Henson and Anika Noni Rose. Lea is also the latest judge to join the Philippines hit version of The Voice.

Lea released her live album “Blurred Lines” in 2017. The album was recorded during her sold-out run at New York’s renowned Feinstein’s / 54Below the year before. The six-date showcase was received with overwhelming accolades from fans and critics alike. So well received in fact that Lea returned to the famed venue for a record-setting 15-show encore performance that wrapped up her latest North American tour in the late spring.
