Centrestage Cymru Bring Family Favourite Annie To Newport’s Dolman Theatre

Following the success of last autumn’s Evita, Centrestage Cymru return to the stage of Newport’s Dolman Theatre from May 1 with their presentation of the family favourite Annie.

Based on Little Orphan Annie, the popular comic strip by Harold Gray, the musical became a worldwide sensation. The original Broadway production opened in 1977 and ran for nearly six years, spawning numerous productions in many countries, as well as national tours, and won several Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Combining street-smarts and optimism, Annie warms the hearts of the audience from her rise as a next-to-nothing in 1930s New York City. Determined to find her parents, who left her at the orphanage 11 years previously, Annie (Felicity Davis) must overcome several obstacles including the controlling orphanage owner, Miss Hannigan (Claudia Barnes). However, allies are at hand in the form of billionaire Oliver Warbucks (Jordan Archer), his secretary Grace Farrell (Fiona Davies), and lovable pooch, Sandy.

Annie features a classic score written by Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, including Easy Street, Hard Knock Life (performed here by Sharon Higgins Academy of Dance) and the Broadway smash hit, Tomorrow.

  • Centrestage Cymru’s presentation of Annie runs at Newport’s Dolman Theatre from May 1-4, 2019 with all performances commencing at 7.15pm.
