Mezzo-Soprano Angharad Lyddon at St David’s Hall

LOOKING forward to the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World at St David’s Hall this summer?

The prestigious competition takes place from Saturday 15 – Saturday 22 June, and you can get a taste of what’s to come this Tuesday (9 April) with the magnificent mezzo-soprano Angharad Lyddon, who will be representing Wales.

Starting at 1pm, this special Lunchtime Concert sees Angharad perform a powerful programme including Schubert, Elgar, Brahms, Mozart, Strauss and Bizet.

Angharad is a graduate of London’s Royal Academy of Music, and whilst at college her roles for Royal Academy Opera included Lucretia in The Rape of Lucretia, Baba the Turk in The Rake’s Progress, Zita in Gianni Schicchi and Filipyevna in Eugene Onegin amongst others. In 2015, Angharad made her professional debut for English National Opera in as Kate in Pirates of Penzance, and performed the role again in their 2017 revival.

Accompanying Angharad is prodigious pianist David Doidge, who is a répétiteur for the Welsh National Opera. At WNO, David has worked on productions with internationally acclaimed conductors such as Carlo Rizzi, Lothar Köenigs, Tomáš Hanus, Ainars Rubikis and Erik Nielsen with recent highlights including Tosca, Don Giovanni, Eugene Onegin and Der Rosenkavalier.

Other engagements include Disney’s Beauty and the Beast live UK tour with the Novello Orchestra, Grange Park Opera’s 2018 production of Oklahoma and most recently a concert production of Tosca at the 2019 Abu Dhabi Festival with Sir Bryn Terfel.
