Alfie Boe’s Centrestage Debut For Annie The Musical

Visitors to the Dolman Theatre this week may spot a familiar name in the cast of Centrestage Cymru’s presentation of Annie the Musical.

Alfie Boe will be making his stage debut, but before fans of the opera singer get too excited, its not that Alfie Boe!

For this Alfie is a cute Canine belonging to Centrestage Cymru Chairman, Sharon Higgins who named her pet to honour the famous opera singer. Alfie will be taking to the stage as The Mutt alongside another Dolman Theatre Canine star, Noodle who features as Annie’s lovable pooch, Sandy.

Directed by Sharon Higgins, with music direction by Victoria Bryant, Annie is set to warm the hearts of the audience from her rise as a next-to-nothing in 1930s New York City.

Determined to find her parents, who left her at the orphanage 11 years previously, Annie (Felicity Davis) must overcome several obstacles including the controlling orphanage owner, Miss Hannigan (Claudia Barnes). However, allies are at hand in the form of billionaire Oliver Warbucks (Jordan Archer) and his secretary Grace Farrell (Fiona Davies).

A feelgood family musical featuring a classic score written by Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, Annie includes unforgettable stage hits such as Tomorrow, Easy Street and Hard Knock Life performed by the Sharon Higgins Academy of Dance as The Orphans.

  • Centrestage Cymru’s presentation of Annie runs at Newport’s Dolman Theatre from Wednesday May 1 until Saturday May 4 (limited availability only for Friday and Saturday) with all performances commencing at 7.15pm.  For booking details visit dolmantheatre.co.uk or contact the box office on 01633 263670.
