Britain’s all-time most successful instrumental group, The Shadows, are defying the era of digital downloads and compact discs by returning to their original record format for a special release of their latest album featuring classic radio cuts from the 1960s!
A numbered limited-edition run of 500 on single black heavyweight vinyl of The Shadows Live at the BBC will be released on 4 October 2019.

Following on from the CD version released in 2018, this is the first time this record has been available on vinyl. The first of The Shadows many Saturday Club appearances that have been unearthed dates from December 1965 (first broadcast on Christmas Day). The band had made at least eighteen appearances prior to this – five of them while they were still calling themselves The Drifters.
The line-up for the six featured Saturday Club sessions remained constant, featuring Hank Marvin (lead guitar), Bruce Welch (rhythm guitar), John Rostill (bass) and Brian Bennett (drums).

Following The Shadows temporarily disbandment in 1968, Hank and Bruce went on to form a trio with John Farrar, previously with The Strangers. The BBC ‘Keeping It Peel’ archive shows it was this trio, together with the returned Brian Bennett and session musician Mo Foster on bass, that recorded The Shadows 1973 session for John Peel’s show – which also went out on Christmas Day.
The Shadows Live at The BBC features a total of 21 tracks, and unlike many of their contemporaries, unreleased material from the 1960s and 70s is quite a rarity. However, The Shadows are in fine form throughout these sessions and undoubtedly the BBC collection will be a worthy, if not original companion to previous Shadows vinyl releases.
