Plastic Mermaids Explode Into Cardiff For Live Show

With their autumn 2019 UK tour fast-approaching, the Isle of Wight’s Plastic Mermaids have just announced fifth single ‘Yoyo’ an edit of the original taken from their self-produced debut album, Suddenly Everyone Explodes.

New single ‘Yoyo’ is an emotionally charged ode to; “Holding on, letting go, life, death, energy flow in the universe and the inevitable movement from order to chaos”.  Vocalist Doug Richards explains:

“Most of the lyrics I wrote a few years back when my mum was dying of cancer,

“I spent a lot of time thinking about death and what a person really is, as a complete atheist but wanting some sort of solace. Then I came up with this weird talky song idea and thought I’d stick the two together.”

In terms of musical influences, fans of The Flaming Lips, Arcade Fire, Sparklehorse and Tame Impala will all find something to love in Plastic Mermaids’ richly textured sound.  The Flaming Lips’ influence is also evident in their ecstatic live show which has manifested itself into a spectacular featuring an onstage sparkly-gold-cape-clad choir and Patricia their mirror-ball mannequin.

  • The Plastic Mermaids play Cardiff’s Clwb Ifor Bach on September 20.
