To coincide with Remembrance Sunday, singer and actress Rosamund Shelley along with piano accompanist Gavin Roberts will be presenting a recital of War Songs at Chepstow’s Drill Hall on November 10 at 7.30pm
Moving from the public and political to the private and personal, via poetry, prose, laughter and tears, War Songs features works from Schumann, Kurt Weill and Poulenc amongst others. Giving the presentation a contemporary feel, the recent addition of letters and reports from world war zones increases the relevance to women and war.
Rosamund Shelley trained at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She made her West End debut as Maria in West Side Story, and subsequently played Laurie in Oklahoma for a year at The Palace Theatre in London.
Rosamund has toured nationally and internationally, and worked with, among others, the RSC, Bristol Old Vic, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Theatre Wales, WNO, Sherman Cymru, Theatr Pena and Music Theatre London.
Gavin Roberts enjoys a varied career as a piano accompanist. He has partnered singers in recital at Wigmore Hall, the Barbican Hall and the Royal Festival Hall, and is Artistic Director of the recital series Song in the City, for whom he has devised more than 100 recital programmes.
Gavin studied piano at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where he is now a Professor of Academic Studies and a Staff Pianist. He read Music at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he also held the organ scholarship. Gavin has a master’s degree from King’s College, London.
