Singer/songwriter WENDY JAMES, the voice of 80s rockers Transvision Vamp is heading to South Wales during May 2020 with two live shows playing venues in Swansea and Cardiff supporting her new album Queen High Straight.
Wendy, who was born in London, scored hits in the late 80s with Transvision Vamp including I Want Your Love, Baby I Don’t Care, Revolution Baby and The Only One. The band also scored success with two memorable albums Pop art and Velveteen before Wendy went solo. There have also been collaborations with Elvis Costello, James Williamson from Iggy & the Stooges, Lenny Kaye from The Patti Smith Group and James Sclavunos from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.
Wendy’s latest album, Queen High Straight features 20 brand new tracks and are all written, produced and remixed by Wendy and display a natural penchant for Alt Rock New Wave Pop Songs through to the most delicately composed heart wrenching ballads and whimsy to truly aggressive punk speed rock and the big pop sound of great girl groups The Ronettes, Shangri-Las and Martha & The Vandellas.
Wendy will be performing songs from Queen High Straight with her band across the UK this May including Swansea Cinema & Co on Wednesday May 6 and Cardiff’s Clwb Ifor Bach on Friday May 15th. The Wendy James Band consist of Wendy James, Vocals/Rhythm Guitar, Pip Stakem, Lead Guitar, Rupert Greaves, Rhythm Guitar/Keyboards/Backing Vocals, Alex J Ward, Rhythm Guitar/Keyboards, Leo Kurunis, Bass Guitar/Backing Vocals and James Sclavunos Drums/Percussion. The Wendy James Band had their first outing through October 2019 opening for The Psychedelic Furs around the UK and were a huge success. Playing a mixture of hits from Transvision Vamp, a selection of solo favourites from Wendy’s previous albums and rounding out their set previewing new material from Queen High Straight.
