National Theatre Wales and Sherman Theatre are to live stream the second of its Network Play Readings this weekend, Saturday 16 May at 7.00pm, read by a stellar line up of Welsh actors, in partnership with The Other Room.
Rakie Ayola, Matthew Gravelle, Rebecca Hayes and Julian Lewis Jones make up an outstanding cast in this new reading directed by Dan Jones, Artistic Director of Cardiff’s pub Theatre, The Other Room.
Originally staged in 2016, Constellation Street was one of The Other Room’s biggest hits. The reading of all four monologues offers viewers an opportunity to savour Matthew Bulgo’s honest and meticulously crafted writing.
One night under Cardiff skies, four lost souls go looking for answers. After dark, when the world is quiet, their paths weave and collide as they all go in search of salvation. When dawn breaks, life will go on but there will be another night to contend with soon enough. As the sun rises over the Taff, can anyone break free from the past? Unflinching, funny and humane – Constellation Street is somewhere you will want to spend time.
The play is made up of four separate but interconnected monologues. They will be broadcast in one continuous performance on Saturday 16th May at 7.00pm and will then be available as separate instalments on demand for two weeks.
Network Play Readings, a partnership between Sherman Theatre and NTW, works with a range of independent companies and artists to produce play readings, showcasing the talent of playwrights, companies and creatives across Wales.
Network’s New Digital Commissions, in partnership with Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, is an opportunity to make live theatre in digital spaces by inviting artists from Wales to come up with innovative, exciting and human responses to the ongoing lockdown.
The next Network New Digital Commission will be streamed on Thursday 21 May at 7.00pm and Saturday 23 May at 7.00pm. Life Coach, by Justin Teddy Cliffe is a new immersive, digital theatre experience, which takes a sardonic exploration through the modern pop-culture of online self-help gurus. Guided by three guided extra-ordinary Life Coaches, you are invited to play along live over a five day course, or take your seat as an observer for the final live seminar where the results of the guru’s promise of true, lifelong happiness and betterment play out.
