Via the magic of a Facebook watch party, leading Newport musical theatre group Centrestage Cymru reassembled with Act 2 of their fundraiser Sofa Sing Song on Sunday evening.
The programme, broadcast on Facebook Live (and available for the next seven days) was edited by Jordan Archer and featured the group led by chairman, Sharon Higgins; performing 22 songs including selections from musicals and pop music standards.
As with the first edition, there was an entertaining and occasionally surprising selection of material.
It goes without saying that each performance was magic and memorable (a full roll call appears below of the delights in store), among them Sharon Higgins bringing feeling to There Are Worse Things I Could Do (From Grease), Georgina Powell’s stunning vocal on Second Hand White Baby Grand (From Smash) Ciara Doyle’s rocking rendition of Alanis Morrisette’s Hand In My Pocket, Cerys Cox’ beautiful version of All That Matters (From Finding Neverland) and Michael Vella & Amy Cross making sweet music on Tango Maureen (From Rent).
Among the creative high-points were Chris Davies & Bethan Daniels uniting virtually to duet for Too Late To Turn Back Now (from Bonnie & Clyde), no less than three Marc Williams’ singing on the uplifting Count Your Blessings in a round on piano and Centrestage performers uniting for the inspiring You’ll Never Walk Alone from Carousel.

Centrestage Cymru’s Sofa Sing Song Act Two will be available to watch on Facebook for a week after broadcast.
People wishing to donate to Centrestage Cymru to help raise funds for Saturday Night Fever (with a percentage of the funds to be made to The Alzheimer’s Society) can do so by visiting their Just Giving page.
Following closure of theatres in the wake of COVID19 CentreStage Cymru’s next production Saturday Night Fever has now been postponed until October 28th – October 31st, 2020 and will play at Newport’s Dolman Theatre. You can book tickets for the show via the Dolman Theatre website.
