Theatre Adhoc Launch Virtual New Writing Festival 2020

This week, Theatre Adhoc in partnership with Congress Theatre, Cwmbran launch The Virtual New Writing Festival 2020!

At the beginning of lockdown, Theatre Adhoc’s My Mother Said I Never Should was the final live production to play Cwmbran’s Congress Theatre. However, rather than just close the theatre doors the staff came up with the genius idea of creating a Virtual Studio set up for artists to record and broadcast their events live on Facebook and YouTube; all with the help of tech. company Green Room Events! Combine this with Theatre Adhoc’s desire to develop a strong digital output rather than just grind to a halt and so the annual “New Writing Event” (normally scheduled for September) was transformed into “The Virtual New Writing Festival 2020”.

The company will present three short new plays chosen from a host of playwrights which could be specifically prepared and performed by a small cast while adhering to strict social distancing guidelines. With preparations completed by Theatre Adhoc, Congress Theatre and Green Room Events the plays will be broadcast on the Congress Theatre Facebook page and YouTube channel on the following dates:

  • 7pm Wednesday 26th August Counting by Gregory Vines, Directed by Julia Swain
