My Music DNA: Welshy

DJ/ Producer, Welshy (real name Ross Walsh) heralds from Kilkenny in Ireland and has achieved over 41 million streams, while earning recognition from superstar names BTS, Kygo and The Chainsmokers.

Having shown an affinity for music from a young age, Welshy’s career started to take off in his teens with originals, remixes and bootlegs consistently hitting big numbers. Between his eclectically infectious music and the charisma he demonstrated at Instagram and TikTok, he’s developed a loyal and growing following. That fanbase has seen him sell-out shows across Ireland, while also making an impact in England, Scotland, Wales and Spain.

Now signed to Insanity Records, Welshy shares his new track Haiti. It’s the official version of his bootleg track, which went viral and exceeded a million streams.

Here, Welshy discusses the music that has inspired his life and music career to date with Andy Howells.

What was the first song that made an impact on you?

The first song that really made an impact on me would have to have been Avicii’s Seek Bromance, this track is widely regarded as Aviciis breakthrough track and it was the track that made me want to make dance music. I remember hearing this track when it came out and just being enamored with the piano and the melodies in that production. It still gives me goosebumps to this day.

What was the first single you bought?

This has me thinking as I’m only 23 the majority of music I would have purchased when I was very young would have been modern at the time cause I loved pop growing up.

As far as I remember I think the first CD I ever bought myself was possibly Rhianna – Unfaithful

What was the first album you owned?

I think the first album I ever owned that I purchased myself as a young lad was Black Eyed Peas – The Beginning. I fondly remember buying this album and importing all the tracks onto an MP3 player back when they were the big thing many years ago

What’s your constant go to track?

This is probably going to have to be Seek Bromance Avicii I adore that track.

What’s your constant go to album?

The two albums I constantly see myself listening to are Avicii – True and Calvin Harris – 18 Months

Who’s your latest music discovery?

My latest music discovery is a fellow Irish producer called Shane Codd, he has just released a track called Get Out My Head which I’m loving at the moment.

What’s your own track that best defines you as an artist?

I guess Haiti best defines me as an artist right now as it’s very innovative. Haiti is a UK house track with a bit of a twist. The bit of a twist is what defines me, I’m not afraid to try out new things and experiment in the studio.
