My Music DNA: Greg Hughes of Still Corners

Still Corners fifth studio album The Last Exit will be released on 22nd January 2021 via Wrecking Light Records.

The band, who comprise of songwriter/producer Greg Hughes and vocalist Tessa Murray are known for their dream-like shimmering desert noir sound. The Last Exit promises the listener a hypnotic journey, one filled with dilapidated towns, mysterious shapes on the horizon, and long trips that blur the line between what is there and not there.

Greg says, “We found something out there in the desert – something in the vast landscapes that went on forever.”

Here, Greg reveals the sounds that inspired his music journey to Andy Howells

What was the first song that made an impact on you?

My sister had a copy of Queen’s LP News of the World and We Will Rock You completely mesmerised me.  I played it over and over and over again.  I didn’t know it at the time but what I was trying to listen to was reverb.  The sound after the kick kick snare, that plume of air I thought was really weird in a good way.  Also The Beatles’ Rubber Soul.

What was the first single you bought?

The first bit of music I ever bought was They Might Be Giants first ever EP She’s a Hotel Detective
