Throwback Thursday: The Treniers, Capitol Cinema, Cardiff, June 5 1959

For this Throwback Thursday, we take a trip back to the early days of Rock N Roll thanks to Terrence McRann and his scrapbook of memories.

American R&B and jump blues musical group The Treniers appeared in several rock n roll movies between 1956 and 1959 including The Girl Can’t Help it and Don’t Knock The Rock.

The band based around Alabama-born twins Clifton L. “Cliff” Trenier & Claude Oliver Trenier played Cardiff’s Capitol Cinema on Thursday, 5 June 1958.

The show, promoted by Lew And Leslie Grade, was originally meant to be part of Jerry Lee Lewis’ first UK tour. However, the American rock n roller was forced out of the UK due to the scandals concerning him at the time.

“They were an exciting live band,” recalls Terrence who obtained the bands autographs at the Cardiff show which also featured the Hedley Ward Trio, the Chas McDevitt Group and Terry Wayne.

Terrence has also sent two further images autographed by Little Richard and Bo Diddley from their appearance at Cardiff Capitol in 1963. You can read more memories from this show here.
