Chelsea Halfpenny will be joining the cast of ‘Waitress’ as of January, 2022, Taking over the role of ‘Jenna’ from Lucie Jones.
Halfpenny will star at Cardiff’s Wales Millenium Centre from the 30 May to 4 June. The remaining cast is yet to be announced.
Beginning her career in the children’s tv series: ‘Byker Grove’, Halfpenny has appeared in many famous shows such as ‘Emmerdale’ and more recently, ‘Casualty’. Halfpenny has also appeared in the West End as ‘Judy Bernly’ in 9 to 5 the Musical.
Waitress: the Musical is based on the 2007 film by the same name, written by Adrienne Shelly. Music and Lyrics have been written by Sara Bareilles, writer of the hit song: ‘She Used to be Mine’. The musical will be directed by Diane Paulus with choreography by Lorin Latarro.
The story follows ‘Jenna’, an expert pie maker searching for a way out of her unhappy marriage. Hearing of a baking contest in a nearby county, she gets the opportunity of a second chance and the escape she’s been looking for.
