Adele Makes A Date for One Night With Marilyn

It’s a busy theatrical season for Newport-born writer, performer, and director Adele Cordner.

Adele’s new one act play, The Balloon Girls will be performed at the Dolman Theatre by Newport Playgoers Society next January and another short new play The Firestarter will be performed by Dirty Protest at the Newport Rising Festival on Sunday 7th November.

One Night With Marilyn Sold-Out Performance

Adele has also been lending her performing talents to the now sold-out one-off rehearsed read-through of One Night with Marilyn by PT Rose playing at Newport’s Dolman Theatre on November 4.

“I am delighted to be working on this great, new play by PT Rose,” enthuses Adele, “I was immediately attracted to the project as I love to support new writing, and I think the script really does justice to the true story of Marilyn’s troubled life.”

Adele is no stranger to the world of local theatre, her credits include directing The Diary of Anne Frank (2020) and Pride & Prejudice (2019) for Newport Playgoers Society while her many roles include Lady Capulet in Romeo & Juliet, and Jacques in As You Like It for Everyman Theatre, Jeanne in Birdsong and Granny Weatherwax in Wyrd Sisters also for Newport Playgoers.

Adele Cordner Plays Gladys in One Night with Marilyn

In One Night with Marilyn, Adele takes on the role of Marilyn Monroe’s mother, Gladys, a God-fearing character that is far from straightforward.

Adele explains. “I am really looking forward to playing the role of Gladys, Marilyn’s fiery mother, who was a complex character with her own mental health issues. Like her own mother, Marilyn was let down by her loved ones and let down by a system which gave her no support.”
